I like to photograph at meaningful locations when possible and they already knew where they wanted to have the session. Harmony Horse Farm in nearby Adams, TN was the perfect backdrop for these two! Roberta and Frank often spend the weekend at the barn, riding and caring for the rest of their family: Cookie and Daisy. Cookie was even featured in their session!
They say not to mix work and pleasure, but COME ON! How was I going to keep myself from doing a session in beautiful Colonial Williamsburg? A trip to see friends that live just minutes from here (I'm so jealous) turned one afternoon into a working vacation. I'm so glad it did!
I could talk for days about how awesome the people in the photographs below are, but I'll try to keep it short.
Tori of Fleahman Photography has helped me with my photography business in so many ways. Before we even moved to Alabama, I found her while looking for great photographers in the area to reach out to and become friends with. Since then, she has helped me get licensed and figure out how to file sales tax (something that didn't apply in Japan so I was completely in the dark!). She came up with ways to connect and meet new people. She even let me tag along as an assistant to one of her fabulous senior sessions to see if it might be a field I'd like to specialize in! On top of all of this, she is such a sweet person, with two crazy little boys that keep you on your toes while staying absolutely adorable! Her husband recently finished up here in Alabama and now they have moved on to bigger and better things. I'm so happy for them, but I miss our coffee dates terribly!
Nothing causes more anxiety for a photographer than taking another photographer's photos. It is pretty much an afternoon of heart palpitations and nervous jitters. Although, for me, this is how it goes before every session!! We had a fun time down by the lake, playing chase and throwing rocks in the water with the boys kept me moving and then we would take breaks and have some downtime while I caught some sweet moments of mom and dad. I absolutely love giving a few romantic shots to parents; even if it means distracting the kids with goldfish a few feet away!
As much as I like when I can get a kiddo to smile, there is something so special about Mom and Dad being the only ones that can really get them laughing. You can just tell this is one close family and it makes my heart warm. :)
